Ap1 & AP2.....what's the deal
#21
I just wanted to clarify that apart from the engine that everything else followed suit with the AP2 across the pond. I'm obsessed with the S2000 a the moment, can't wait to have one! Moving house at the moment, hoping to be out by the end of the month, then I can put my car up for sale and get one!
So how about you lot tell me how awesome they are! haha Seriously though, would love to here your experience with them, any things you don't like, things you do like, your view on the power delivery good or bad?

Bang for buck, it doesn't get much better. It's fun to drive if not a little raw, not exactly cheap to run but far from expensive and is easily one of the sexiest cars on the road, always turns heads.

Why can't you guys deal with the fact that from my04 on we got the AP2 but with the AP1 engine. Not an AP1 with suspension, body and interior mods........

Thanks for the info guys! I currently drive an 05 Hyundai Coupe (before anyone takes the wee wee I love it!) but I'm looking for a little more go and style. With regards to ride quality how bad is it? It's not something I'm that concerned about but just so that I'm prepared! The coupe isn't exactly a smooth ride so I'm a little used to it!

I have a MY04 and I think the springs and damping cope very well with the potholes with tarmac between them, other lumps and bumps too. Very happy and don't plan on "uprating" anything in my suspension

I'm not sure if my budget will stretch to an 04. I know there were some changes to the suspensions in that year so I think I'm right in saying MY00-02 are harshest, the 02-04 are slightly softer and then 04+ softer again?

04+ chassis is stiffer so can get away with more compliant suspension. Spring and roll bar rates aren't the be all and end all. No-one really knows what was changed on the damper settings which will have a bigger effect on the ride quality.
The lower profile tyres fitted on 04+ also make a difference to the ride.
Essentially, it's pretty complicated.

99-03 is fine for damping and ride quality with stock suspension. Just don't ruin it by lowering to within a mm of it's life, or fit deep dish 'rims' (which sounds like a euphemism for big arses, if you ask me) at a hideous camber with stretched tyres.
Go test drive some :-)

I'm currently selling and buying a house but as soon as it's done I'll be going out for a test drive! I'd like to lower it a tad, 30mm'ish but that's about it really, not into the cambered look.
