Post Audio Question? - not more?

Whadaya think about these as rear speakers?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...b584b80039a1ca6

I think they should fit in without metal trimming and should provide a nice mid range infill and some extra base without a subwoofer. I have Infinity Kappa's in the doors and can make my ears hurt listening to some of my favorite trance tracks! woo hoo. Anyhow I want more mid base base with less volume but can't, just can't consider a sub in the boot. After spending about 20 hours reading simply hundreds and hundreds of posts on rear speakers wiring options sound stages drowning etc etc etc - I see that without seriously compromising space there is nowhere else to stick a sub.

The HU is Alpine 9853R (50W per channel) which has speaker delay so I can get the stage wherever I want it... I read that raiding a floppy disk drive power lead will provide the necessary plugs for the stock loom connector and onto those I can piggy back my rear speaker cables.

Not interested in Spods at all.

I'll probably get some Lucid rear panels just so as I can keep the originals....

Anyone any thoughts on that lot?

Nice speakers - bloody shame (waste of money?) to cram them in behind the seat.

I did this with my Boston Acoustics

Well a quite neat place to install it would be inside the sparewheel.

You would need to make a flater screw mounting thing (to hold the wheel in place.
And then just a round MDF panel to go over/inside the wheel with the sub mount on it.
Would be a good idea to make the panel just a little smaller than the wheel so the tyre holds it up thus giveing it a soft rattle free mounting.
There woul have to be some way of holding the panel down also....

Not sure on it all but i think with all the bits in front of you anyone with half a brain could work it out

And yeah mikey a small panel at the end of the foot well could work well also.

Yinmeout re: your PM yes you would need an amp to power this, and TBH only pretty low spec subs come 'powered'... avoid them

Just a thought, is a sub really necessary here? Would not the addition of a power amplifier to drive the existing Kappas do the trick? The addition of the amp to my 9833R made a big difference to sound quality, both at high and low levels.

Of course, not listening to crappy Trance music would help the most

Alrighty - well looks like some authopedic shoes are in order.

1. Change the crap music taste that'll sort out half the issues!!
2. Change the car for one that I can fit some sound into!!

Seriously guys - appreciate the feedback...

So you reckon I should amp the kappas as a first stage and then look at adding a Sub if I am not happy with the results?

For the terminally ignorant here - why is power amping the kappas (they are 5 1/2" btw) so much better than driving them from the stock HU?

I'll definately what to put a smallish amp under the passenger seat next to the iPod control unit K wahtever it is from Alpine - it's preatty small - any amp recommendations?

Crikey I'll be a flippin audiophile in no time at this rate!
