The 350 Z roadster has had a lot of chassis stiffening work done to counter the loss of the roof. This has added even more weight to an already heavy car.
Performance/acceleration has been reduced over the coupe - I think it is now down to 6.5 from 5.9 to 60.

Nevertheless the journos love the 350 because it is so easy to extract the performance.

Most of them don't 'get' the s2k.

I wouldn't be suprised to see it win.

Crossfire should come last though - if it doesn't we must rise up and kill them...

Right again, Rmotegi!

They don't seem to notice any of the Z's faults, at all.

The REAL question s/be:

How does a Crossfire rate vs an SLK? Is the M-B really that much better as to justify the price?

The Crossfire is built on the last generation SLK chassis so there should be no reason to expect it to be anywhere near as good as the new SLK. So combine that with the cheap interior and crap handling, it would suggest that the Crossfire is not a patch on the new SLK.

If the S2000 gets beat by the Crossfire I will NEVER buy another copy of Autocar (I buy it every week).

I like the 350Z a lot, but at 1647kg its a bit too fat for me.

I thought the crossfire was based on the old SLK chassis and that the new SLK chassis was much better... (might be wrong though)

I think that was what Moff meant. "last" should be read as "previous".

Autocar is usually a good mag, but I'm with Moff on this one.

The brave and extraordinary result from the test should be a win for the s2k
(journos take note, all would be forgiven)

But it won't happen.

Has nobody produced a turbo or SC for the 350 yet? I would have thought that with that big lump you would extratct a lot more power and cheaply too.

There's a SC available for it. It was featured in evo maybe six months ago. Took the power output out to mid 300s from vague memory. Not cheap, but decent gains for your money, I seem to recall.
