Default Ball joint splitter - lower wishbone

Has anyone got any tricks to splitting the ball joint on the lower rear wishbones without using the tool?

Remove the nut then screw it back on a couple of threads by hand (so as not to damage the threads if you miss), then if your a good aim whack the side of the wishbone where the pin pass's through or use a drift to to the same place, 2 or 3 good sharp well placed blows will do the job, sometimes when the taper release's you can hear the strike change note

That would be great, would I be able to borrow them tomorrow morning by any chance? Sorry it's very late notice but i've got the wishbones unbolted and completly overlooked the ball joints - doh!

Certainly, I will get them out of the garage 1st thing. I may be out but if so I will leave them in a bag by the door.

The smaller splitter works on most of the ball joints but there were a couple that I could only split with the bigger one.

Thanks very much, I'll have them back to you in the afternoon sometime if that's alright. You've got me out of a fix again, I really appreciate it

A ball joint splitter is definitely the way to go. You don't want to risk breaking the ball joint with the cost of those particular ones!

No rush, I have no plans to use them for a while, hopefully a *long* while.

Totally agree but the question was how to remove the ball joint without a splitter

I was looking at a "last resort" way if I couldn't find one in halford, screwfix ect that would do the job. I'm doing a bush change on the rear and i need the car back on the road for monday. Luckely esem was to the rescue and saved me a lot of wated time and effort.
