Default Basket case.

Order Alpine HU 9850Ri - Done
Order Modifry DCI with adapter - Done
Get frustrated for hours using the search trying to find out about speaker baskets - DONE

They're these:
Alpine SPS-17C2

From what I can see - with a 2.25" depth I'd need to make a ~15mm spacer - so if (and with my ability - it's a BIG if!) I can make one - I presume I wouldn't have to cut the speaker basket - and can therefore keep the protection at the back of the speaker.

Is that right?

Get rid of the OWM baskets or cut them out

Buy Autolead 10mm deep Universal 6.5" adapters and leave the OEM baskets out.

Thanks AE - that does seem the easiest solution - I'm just concerned about moisture getting to the speaker without anything behind it.

I think was reading another thread about you having a similar problem once wasn't I AE? Do you reckon it was just bad luck? No probs since?

I'm doing mine at the weekend.
I have the adaptors and will use some dynamat to make a cover over the back of the speaker similar to the OEM basket.

That'll be two votes for binning the basket then.

Mikey - I presume you've got the Autoleads SA-006 adpaters.
I'd be interested to see how you use (fix?) the dynamat - any chance of some pics for me to copy?

I thought the adapters that come with the Alpines are to accommodate different mounting widths, rather than depths, though I may be wrong...
