Default Berk High Flow Cat

Evening all,

It looks, or rather it sounds, like my cat has developed the internal dreaded rattle. I'm guesing an OEM replacement is stupid money and been looking at the Berk HFC which seems to get good reviews in the states.

Anyone here have one? Is it a direct replacement, i.e. same bolts, gaskets etc. I assume I can re-use the same lambda sensor?

Is it ok to run without a heat shield?

I assume it's the 63.5mm to match the OEM system?

I guess the added bonus is it may add even more noise to my 37mm UK Exhaust mod

I got the 70mm one to match up with my Greddy SE exhaust. It is a direct swap like you say. You re-use the spring loaded oem bolts on one end, and it comes with it's own bolts and gasket for the other, and you screw the lambda sensor to it like normal. You don't need the heat shield, there is one on the underside of the bodywork as well.

I love it, it's changed the sound a bit, it sounds great, build quality is excellent.

Great, will get one ordered!

Did it make it more raspy?

I assume I should stick to 63.5mm? I've got no plans to change the rear silencers at any point.

I know Earls_f20c has got one and his car sounds really nice. Mind you he has got other bits and pieces on his as well, (buddy club manifold and exhaust mod).

I have been using one for over 3 years now and it has got me through the last 3 MOTs without having to change anything

One problem I had was a problem using the stock donut gasket, as it wouldn't seal properly, ended up making another to fit over it but that might be due to my Buddy Club manifold? If you're on stock mani' it'll probably be fine.

Rasp wise, yes a little more noticeable; I have a 30mm mod' and at first I felt it was on the noisy side.

Now however, I think it sounds getting on for perfect, especially blended with intake (PRM) & manifold (Buddy Club).

(I tried a straight through test pipe and it was just too much for a 40yr old!)

MOTs won't be a problem either - the results were well within spec'

Amazing that you come on a public forum to brag about going for a hoon without insurance, mot and tax - people like you don't deserve a driving licence.

Morons.
