Best jacking point
Hey guys and gals,
Finally my new exhaust has arrived and i feel like havign a go at fitting it myself. (Feeling brave!)
Does anyone know the best point for jacking the rear of the car up from? I've heard some say the diff and others say safest to jack up each side separately and add axle stands each side.
Any suggestions?

The OE exhaust is one piece from the cat and is frikkin frikkin heavy...
Worth bunging someone at an exhaust place £30-£40 in cash to fit it IMHO.
Or have your bumper book of swear words handy.

If your lanky like me and not a weakling you should be able to lift off and manoeuvre the whole system with your head at the back of the car and legs/feet running under the system to the cat.
Take off the the 14mm headed nuts on the cat-system flange, but leave the system on the studs,
Drop the lower rear brace (also 14mm headed bolts I believe, and 2 10mm headed ones for the plastic bracket
Then after soaking your 5 rubbers in your chosen lubricant (I use car shampoo and water in a sprayer bottle but thats just me) you should be able to manhandle the midbox rubber off first and then tackle the two on each box.
Pull the system towards the back of the car (take care not to thump it into your bumper too much as it comes off the studs) and you should be able to get it out from under the car with you in situ if you got the car high enough.
Oh by the way, on the oem system there is a thin ring gasket that is crush-fitted into a groove on the flange, sometimes they are so covered with rust and carbon that you cant see it, but a stiff wire brush will show it up. You then need a very small flat screwdriver to lever it out.
This item MUST be replaced if/when you re fit the OEM system, as it will blow like f**k otherwise since the existing gasket will have been crushed into fitting by tightening the system up.
Its a couple of quid from the stealer. Gun gum never seemed to suffice here....

fwiw - I swapped my exhaust with only the right rear jacked (using an axle stand) and the front wheels chocked.
No idea how I got the bolts undone though - having copper greased them and put them back on, 6 months later I can't undo the things. They had been in place for ten years last time!
