Default Beware of drivers without lights

I almost rear-ended a numpty tonight on my way home from work. Why? It was 6.45pm, going dark and he hadn't switched the lights on his crappy black Punto. Help reduce the number of S2000s ending up at breakers' yards by being aware! It amazes me how stupid people are. When it's raining, I switch mine on. When I'm overtaking on a sunny day, top down, I switch mine on. The fact is, people don't use their common-sense and are oblivious to road etiquette. Rant over!

I actually have my lights on nearly all the time, unless it's blinding bright sunshine. I swear that people just can't see our cars without them on!

I agree about other drivers though. That's why a lot of new cars come with daytime running lights, or auto lights as standard. it's the law in Sweden to have your lights on all the time regardless of time/weather!

I might adopt that strategy. The reason I don't at the moment is because I don't want to be an Audi driver. Every day I see at least one Cheshire White Audi with his/her little pearl-necklace sidelights on. I don't want to be them, or to be assumed as such!

I'm an S2000 snob. I like it.

I ran with my lights on all the time, especially being a grey colour people didn't see it.

I spent some time living in Italy back in 2005 and recall driving to Rome airport at midnight and some guy in a black BMW was in the middle lane of the motorway with no lights on at all!

This was in a country where it's actually the law to have sidelights on at all times.

I also almost always drive with my lights on when in the 'S'

Beware of the school run in a few weeks time, they may have a "precious princess" on board but will have left the brain cell at home.

I can, to some extent, excuse the driver who's been driving in light to meet dark during the journey and not think to put his/her lights on, but I have absolutely no sympathy for people who get in their cars in a floodlit carpark (like my local Sainsbury's) and don't think to switch on their lights either just before (bad for battery) or just after starting the car up. Bloody idiots! If you're one of them and you're reading this, it was me who was shouting at you tonight!

People simply have no common sense, they think lights are for them to see in front of the car, its not dark yet I can see fine therefore why should I turn on my lights...

I flick the lights on by default, start car lights on. In NL it's not law but it has always been campaigned and it works.

It's the same thing as the fog lights and the middle lane hogging, if nobody teaches them they're doing something wrong nothing will ever change.

I regrettably know someone; no joke: who refuses to put his lights on until its totally pitch black, as he believes it creates distraction for other drivers.

Well yes, it does. It distracts them from slamming into you on a dark country lane.

I'm being totally honest about this, this is also a guy who refuses to indicate. On what grounds I don't know.

Swords at the ready.....

I totally agree!!! It should be law and not just lights, dipped heads.
