Default A Bit of Instruction Required

I am now coming up to the 1 month anniversary of owning my S2000 and feel I need some professional instruction and help. I thoroughly enjoy driving the S2K but I know that I am not getting the best out of it. I would like to get to know it better and learn when its about to bite me in the safe environment of a track or an old airfield.
Can anyone recommend a course of driver trainer?

There will be people along to recommend Car Limits days and others. They are a little expensive, but you do get a lot of one-to-one tuition. I personally took the slightly cheaper route of an airfield 'academy' day with Motorsports Events, who run academy days and track days at airfield and a few tracks, generally around the M4 corridor. The academy day was great fun (esp in the wet!) and comprises several 'exercises' which you take your turn to try, then watch others. The instructors are stood around, giving advice before and afterwards and there is tonnes of run off area, plus a single car at a time, so no danger of contact. They actively encourage you to take the car beyond its limits whilst you've got the space. I found it a great way to find out exactly how far you can push the S. I then followed it up with one of their airfield track days, which are great for beginners, pretty cheap and VERY well run. I paid for 3x20mins instruction too, which is VERY well worth it.

An added bonus is that one of the instructors is the chap that Jenson Button is named after! What a great claim to fame!

The website is average, but don't let that put you off! http://www.motorsport-events.com/

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I've done the Academy Day at Hullavington, a track day at Hullavington and a track day at Colerne.

Car Limits is expensive, but those who have participated in the full course have said it's worth it. The Loon organises S2KUK airfield days that are attended by Andy Walsh (aka Mr. Car Limits); perhaps this would be a good day to attend and get a feeler for what it's about.

Colerne is a very good track day, but MSE have stopped airfield days there Some rubbish about the cars ruining the surface as the new tarmac was laid cheaply. Keevil is quite good too These aren't so much car control days per se, but does allow you to find the limits of your comfort zone and to see how the car responds to your inputs

The Motorsport Events days are excellent, a load of us did one years ago. Here's that thread https://www.s2ki.com/...at-october-30th

If you want to do an "Airfield Track Day" with them, I can wholeheartedly recommend them, just book instruction.

Alternatively, you could come along to this https://www.s2ki.com/...y-19-june-2011/ which is a taster version of a Car Limits day and only costs £48 (or £40 for S2KUK members) - it's a really fun day out with lots of sliding around.

Here's a vid from the last day in the wet

Another possibility is the Institute of Advanced Motorists skills days. These are held at various circuits through the year. All the driving is done with an instructor next to you, giving advice on braking points, cornering lines etc, and you are encouraged to explore the cars limits. I did one at Silverstone in March, and had a brilliant time. Details are on the IAM website.

I just used a big empty car park to find the 'limit' as to when the back end starts to move.

I don't know why people say CarLimits is expensive; it seemed a lot cheaper than the alternative personal tuition courses.

10 minutes with an instructor on a trackday is good, but can't really compare.

Thanks for all the replies. I have made a couple of enquiries since I posted - anyone used Cadence Driver Development or Driver Development Programme?
I'm Lincolnshire based and would prefer somewhere a bit more local than M4 corridor if poss.
