Default Bit Worried.

I am hopefully picking up my 04 S at the end of the month.

It will be my all year round car, but ive been reading all these horror stories of the car in the wet and its putting me off no end.

Im 21 but consider myself to be a responsible driver and dont drive faster than the conditions allow - especially in the wet.

I dont drive with a heavy right foot especially not in the rain so is the S going to be something that is untameable in the rain, or are these spins driver orientated ie going to fast, accelerating too quickly etc?

I can live with the little twitches but I dont want to feel my life is on the line as i approach every roundabout in the rain.

I enjoy driving which is the reason I want to get this car as ive been told its a real drivers car, and I often go out for drives with my girlfriend, but i dont want to buy this car only to feel worried about driving it in the rain incase I come home with no car.

So i guess my question is - Can this car EVER be driven in the wet without being guranteed a brown trouser moment?

Now I know there will be a few occasions but I would rather know that this car can be driven in the wet without the back end letting go.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks alot

Just take it easy in the wet and you will be fine. It's not particularly sensible to drive hard in the wet on public roads in ANY car, let alone a RWD car with no TC or whatever driver aids many other cars have.

The S like any car can be driven all year round no problems, if you take care.

EVERY S2000 which spins off the road is down to driver error, in some form or other. I've tanked mine twice and it was my fault both times

I've had my S for about six months now and use it every day, whatever the weather. I had the same concerns you did after reading topics about the rear end going in the wet.

Don't let it put you off, as you would be missing out on a car that offers an amazing driving experience.

As long as you use a little common sense in the wet you should be fine. Always make sure you have plenty of tread on your tyres which makes all the difference.

My only advice would be to lower your speed even more than you think necessary when encountering standing water on the carriageway.

I noticeably reduce my speed on a wet day, but this is worth putting up with for the awesome way this car handles in the dry

Yes, in fact it's quite challenging to drive the car quickly in wet/damp conditions if you know what you are doing (that's a very big "if" though" - don't expect to drive it like a hot hatch and not end up hurting yourself or someone else).

The '04 is a pussycat in the wet compared to the 02 - much more usable in very wet conditions.
