Is black the new silver?

I am buying a new car soon and today I saw it in black and was impressed although I had wanted it in silver originally. My worries are; does black mark easily and show swirls when polished etc? I thought silver would maintain its looks far longer than black but black looks really good. I was offered Superguard but looking back on the forum I think that may be a waste of money. Can I please have the opinions of owners who have or have had black cars please? Would you have another one?

All dark colours will show scratches and swirls more easily.

The darker colours look much better when they are clean, but the lighter ones will look nice even when dirty, as long as it's sunny.

I had a Berlina Black until early this year, and whilst you can't beat a highly polished black ...

... don't expect it to stay that way on the road. In anything but the driest and most dustfree conditions, blacks start to look dirty in no time.

Personally, I wouldn't buy another black. It's just too much hard work ...

black is great. if you follow a good cleaning practice you can keep the scratches swirls to the min. TBH get the black/burgandy colour :D gorgeous

I'd go black too - agree on the keeping clean but nothing touches a highly polished black finish.

I'm sure that the high-maintenance requirements will prevent black becoming as ubiquitous as silver.

One could argue that amongst those who rely upon fashion promoters to tell them what opinion they should hold, white will shortly become the new black.

After 3 years of owning a black car, silver is a huge relief. :D

But I have to admit I am envious of owners of black S2Ks as they look so good.

i was tempted by black.. but i'm a lazy ****.. if you're the same don't do it.. silver is p1ss easy to look after!

black is a pig to keep clean, & stone chips are a nightmare

plus black is the fastest colour in the whole colour range available

I thought White was the new silver :)

having had a silver s before my Royal Navy Blue ( which can look nearly black) I would definitely say silver is easier to look after and can look really nice when polished too.

My Wife's car is Moonrock in colour and that seems to hide the dirt well.
