Default Boot Bag

At the weekend, the MG Owners Club held a major rally at the Swavesey Showground in Cambridgeshire, (which is adjacent to their HQ), to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their founding. As the largest single make car club in the world (30,000 paid up members!), there were a lot of MGs there, and my car stood out in splendid isolation. However, it is worth noting that it attracted a lot of attention from passers-by.

Although I bought my S over ten years ago, ‘for my sins’ I continued my membership of the MGOC as they publish a very readable monthly magazine, which is worth the cost of membership alone. Imagine my surprise, whilst walking around the trade stands, to find myself looking at the back end of an S, as it so happens, the same year as mine! It was on a stand displaying a bag to be strapped to the boot to increase luggage storage.

There have been a number of threads recently about the lack of boot space when touring overseas so I thought it worth creating this thread in case anyone is interested. I noted that they also do boot racks and bike racks. They have a web site at boot-bag.com which provides more information.

Would this not damage the boot?

Not with ours, I did add some neoprene pads between the paintwork and the webbing to make sure it doesn't rub, but it works really well.

I wouldn't have thought so, as long as you're sensible about what you put in it. We use it for light stuff like clothes, not boots or, heavy angular stuff.

The boot opens and shuts with it in place (I don't think the boot is closed fully in the photos above), the only slight problem we had last summer was a tiny amount of water ingress into the boot along the straps, but that may have been in part due to my neoprene additions and in part due to it absolutely p*ssing down in Scotland.

Reckon when you're doing decent motorway speeds you'll get quite a bit of drag on that, pushing the lid down.

I don't think the boot in the s2000 is too bad when you remove the lining and stuff the spare wheel and above the tank a bit, as long as you pack efficiently you can take plenty
