Default Braces....

Which ones satbilise the rear from skipping? As far as I can tell the rear lower one is in place, so an aftermarket one would be no use. Presume an upper one will help?

The standard lower one is O'rriable!

Personally never experienced an upper but have fitted the lower and it made a significant difference

I have the Spoon rear lower brace and can tell you it doesn't make one iota of difference. Cusco make an upper rear but like the lower it just replaces an existing and adequate brace. Don't waste your money.

If you are concerned about the snappy rear the best prescription is a stiffer front sway bar. I have the Whiteline 31mm front bar and it had a noticable effect on road and track. Not only is the rear less snappy but when it does go it's progressive and controllable.

Last weekend I was charging up in some twisties and passing a Mini Cooper S at about 120kph. I gave it a bit too much and the back stepped out. Backed off a tad and it came back in nicely.

Id say the opposite, mind you if you have both upper & lower fronts aswell then the whole characteristics are changed

The upgraded rear IMO does stop the scuttle and allows for a smoother more gradual break away when it goes. The front lower certainly makes the front more directional and again tightens up the front end.

Well I'll let you know after this weekend, im going to be replacing the rizla rear lower bar, with a Spoon item. I'm hoping this will tighten the rear end which now feels very slack compared with my muz/spoon front end, which feels very tight and responsive.

It will do exactly that and you will find that the break away will now be far more prograssive

Did/do you inform your insurance company when you fit the braces?

I have the cusco rear lower brace fitted - skipping over uneven surfaces has been dampened, however the rear can break loose easier than stock. The main difference is that there is a lot more communication from the rear end.

I've always been under the impression that stiffer sway bars will actually INCREASE understeer

I'm surprised there isn't, or doesn't appear to be a rear bar that mounts on the susp towers. At the moment I can't justfy spending
