Default Brakes

Has anybody experianced any braking problems as follows:- Under heavy braking I appear to invariably get the offside front to lock up and induce the operation of the ABS system. The does not appear to affect stability, perhaps it is coincedence and the wheel with least traction happens to have allways been the offside front. So has any one had ABS or brake problems.

Have you checked the tire pressures? Just something to eliminate before the brakes.

Ive noticed ABS cutting in more often than on my last car (Rover Coupe). Might just be my driving of course

Brian ,

I check pressure's often, only seem to need to add air to 32psi to nearside rear all others hardly ever need to be topped up?

Okay, it's just a small difference in pressure does affect the grip. If you're braking hard enough to get abs, then that's certainly hard enough to show up any pressure difference, or alignment difference etc.

When the ABS triggers it's normal for one wheel to have more grip that the others - that's part of the point of ABS. It can hold the front wheels individually near the threshold of grip, while a human can only try it for all the wheels at once.

In good conditions on track, I can brake hard enough to have the passenger struggling to stay in the seatbelt, without triggering the abs. However, on road conditions, I can generally brake much less before there's a risk of abs cutting in.

If you're sure the alignment, tires, road camber where you're braking etc are all even, then I'd suggest taking it to the dealer. I don't think there's any other option for the abs system.
