bumper ding
right.. ages ago someone bumped my S and the rear bumper was replaced.. it was very minor hit but the Honda guy said once deformed they are knackered.
now it's happened again, much worse and the honda guy says 'paint it'..
it's an insurance job.. should i take her somewhere else?

daft question mate, if the other drive has dinged you (like my incident) even if it looks 100% get it replaced, it's not going to cost you, you do want your car to be mint don't you?
Get it sorted, it's his insurance that'll take a spanking. Don't the new bumper come pre painted?

I'd definitely want a brand new bumper if that happened to me. That's what I thought happened through insurance companies anyway. When my previous car was hit from behind - while parked outside my flat
the insurance company said they wouldn't repair damage to a bumper but replace it as then you have a warrantee on the item.
I think only the facelift (04 onwards) bumpers come colour coded so you'd probably have to get it painted in either case. If you get it done from a professional bodyshop other than Honda they might let you keep the old one too, or just try a different Honda dealership. I did that with one of my other cars under an insurance claim, the body shop let me keep the old bumper which came in use again.
The bumpers on an S are really just skin. They hardly have any strength at all. The rear one is a bit better than the front but both are very flimsy. If they have what bodyshops call a 'stress fracture', probably not visible to you and I, you will start to see cracks in the paintwork after a while.
Basically; if you've got the luxury of having a brand new bumper I can't see why you'd settle for anything less?!
