Default Burgled...

Got home from work on Friday evening to find we'd been burgled, a few electronic items taken, as well as the keys to my S, which was parked on the drive.

Didn't fancy leaving it there for them to come and take when they felt like it, so I rang my car insurance company, who arranged for it be taken away to a secure compound. The breakdown truck came within the hour, and they jacked the car up, put it on skids and winched onto the truck and away. Impressive response I thought.

They phoned me yesterday to say they authorised the repair, i.e. fit new door and boot locks, ignition barrel etc, and gave me the name of the local approved repairer, who is an independent. I said no thanks, the car is just over a year old so I want it doing by Honda.

They ok'd this, but I've got to wait now while they sort out estimates, approvals etc for a non approved repairer.

£1231 to replace locks, ignition, keys, fobs, reprogramme alarm and immobiliser.

Ouch...! Well that won't do your/our insurance premiums much good!

Pesky chavs, they should all be shot on sight.

not a bad outcome that.
keys stolen but car not taken...didnt they realise they had the keys?

still very annoying, but atleast you still have your pride and joy. it just doesnt feel the same if the car is recovered theft.

Did you claim on your Car insurance or house insurance? Can you claim on your house insurance?

Cheers for the support guys, yeah I'm very glad I still have my car, not sure why they didn't take it...but so pleased they didn't.

Had to claim on my car insurance, house insurance wouldn't cover it, so lucky me gets an increased premium on both next year.

They will come and collect it when they have a need for it in an armed robbery.

Well done to you for not ignoring that fact and dealing with it.

If you have a few sets of interesting keys in your arsenal, you have a lot of jobbing cars to pick up months later when needed for a 'job'.

Unlucky mate, the fooking scum-bags, good idea changing the locks etc on the car.

Not telling you the obvious but, when speaking to a police officer (my mate) who's dealed with burglaries he said robbing the same house more than once is quite common.

Not always but most robbers dont bother with houses with burglar alarms, good locks/window locks and a guard dog.
