Bye Bye S2000 - Hello what?
Looks like I'm finally going to leave the company for a job with better prospects and more cash
The downer is that I loose the S as it's a company car
So, what do I replace it with? Since the S I would like to keep with convertibles but I'm having problems thinking what. My options for around the

I would hate to have to run in a new one.

Rob! Leaving the big O? Where for (and do they have any jobs for DBAs....

Unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time on a car, a classic is not a sound prospect. If it's your only car and you sometimes have to rely on it to be somewhere it can become a real pain.
I had an Integrale (not a classic as such, but classic type reliability) when I lived in London as I was in the same position as you.
I had it a year then sold it as it was just too unreliable and always needed work even though it didn't do many miles. Even though I could do most of the work myself, it became a real pain to own (fantastic to drive though).
Remember that Ferraris are initially bought by people who can afford them, just because the purchase price is lower, the running costs are the same and only get bigger as the car gets older. I don't believe the 308 was the most reliable of cars either. Probably best to wait for the Ferrari until you can afford something a bit newer and can have it as a second car.
There is no such thing as a reliable classic.
I can't tell you what to buy, only you know what you really want, but think very carefully before parting with large amounts of money for something you'll need a garage, a second 'runabout' car, patience and lots of money to keep.

Hey Mark,
Yup, my time with Big O looks like it's up. Consulting seems to be moving to India as far as I can tell. Or at least the development work. Great for reducing costs, not so great for a future with me in it. I'm not going to say where I'm off to as I still haven't quite landed the job. Through to the 4th round of interviews, the HR interview. This is the last one so if I get through this I'm going.
As for the car, we would have to have another car anyway for my girlfriend so I can look for something more impractical.
Something else I forgot on the list was a VX220 Turbo. I know it's a Vauxhal built by Lotus, but for
