Default Car starting issue AGAIN

Hi,

Getting on towards 4/5 months ago it was discovered that the car wouldn't start, during a couple of weeks it wouldn't fire up but after this strange period it has been fine ever since to this day. The battery was tested and was fine, well my father has took the car to work a few times this week/last and its always started first time even in -c weather, however today after standing for a wee while after going shopping it decided it didn't want to start again .

Could hear the walbro fuel pump whine, immobiliser symbol looked okay but it just wouldn't fire up.

I'm thinking its a starter/wiring+ground/electrical/relay issue?

Anyone any ideas and where to look?

I do recall the battery terminals not having an conductive jelly stuff on them - any idea what its called and where it can be bought from?

Thanks.

Starter motor jammed?? Had a similar problem in my old mitsi GTO, and just rocked the car back and forth in 1st gear by pushing it to free off the motor. Then started fine.

Edit: think it was the ring gear, not the starter motor itself, but this method worked anyway.

Thanks.
The most conductive thing to have is metal on metal, so a good clean up, then when they are on tight a smear of vasaline (you know what thats for) over the outside to keep the damp out and corosion away.

That dosn't sound like your problem but wouldn't hurt. Normally when it's the battery it will turn over (noticeably slower)but not have enough juice to fire the coils, the the alarm might go off. If you hit the start button and you get nothing or just a relay click, then look around earthing and starter etc.

Thanks guys,

No I haven't replaced the starter, but when opening up an old pump I can see the possibility of the brushes for sure.

Hope its not the burnt out wire to the coils behind the dash god that was a pain in the ass.
