Default Caught short with oil

We're on holiday at the moment, and we've ended up using the S2k much more than expected - 500 miles this week.

Problem is that the oil was at 3 xxxx before I left last week and was at 0 xxx this evening.

So I had to fill up with 500ml of a different type of oil - Magnetec 10w-40 instead of Redline 10w-30 that I usually use.

First problem was that the garage didn't have any oil funnels so I spilt a bit of oil on the engine when I missed the hole (is this a problem?)

Will topping up with a different brand/viscosity cause a problem? Should I get the oil changed again when I get home? Or is it nothing to worry about?

Yes, it will make your engine look mucky and the car to loose about 240bhp when it catches fire.

Do you not get the free top up kit from your super dealers Neil?

Springfield always give me the kits.

1litre oil, disposable gloves, throw away funnels, wet wipes and tissues all in a sealable bag.

I would say it is more important now to have the right levels than worry about the differing brands. Mixing synths with non synths would be more of a worry.

But, eitherway, get the oil changed when you return home. A simple drop and replace, even if you do not want to do it yourself will be an inexpensive process. The oil will be say 35 quid and a 25 quid delear charge (approx) or DIY it.

Just wipe of the stuff on the engine - worst will happen is it will get dirty. Do not worry about a little spilt oil.

Don't worry about the different oil Neil - you're only topping up.

You might get a burning smell from the hot oil on the engine where you spilt it, but as long as you mopped most of it up you'll be fine.

Neil, I was in a similar predicament with an old Golf and ended up topping up with different oil and also ended up spilling a load of the stuff....... Unfortunately the engine expired within 50 miles and then caught fire. I'm afraid you're fooked mate.

Nah only kidding. It'll be fine. Remember some lubricant is better than no lubricant

Yup. The car is ruined. Don't drive it. Don't even turn the engine over.

I think I can safely say that there won't be a problem. Everyone gets a bit too precious when it comes to oil, IMHO ...

You can now sell your knackered car to me for the charitable sum of 50p.
Best to cut your losses.

Ade I don't get a topup kit as I supply my own oil. I normally take a spare 1l bottle but cleaned the car recently and forgot to put it back.

Replacing Redline won't be cheap, probably around

I took 3l with me to italy (3000 miles) - only used 1l. She's not thirsty so soon after an oil change, it must breakdown and burn off as it ages I guess
