Default Cause of vibration

Here you go: What's this then?

Now replaced with an identical part without any damage

I fitted my half shaft spacers after the damage was already done - Dad and I stripped down the CV joints this morning and found this damage on the passenger side inner CV joint. This side is more prone to this damage, particularly on lowered cars without spacers.

This thread was very useful - I suggest other owners of lowered cars spend 20 minutes reading it: http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=21680

I swopped the OEM diff back in at the same time. Budgie - collect when you can

Or for the Layman, CV Joint: Constant Velocity joint, used in drive-shafts where the input and output shaft must rotate smoothly at the same uniform speed of rotation.

Nice info Craig.

Where does one get these spacers?

When i diff swap I may as well get them put in and replace the half shafts and check the CV joints

Budgie - where's the source of all info?

hint: sig

Do you want me to save the one CV joint cup which I removed off the car but which looked OK? That way, if your passenger side bucket is knackered, you can simply use my spare?

You need only buy some Comma CV grease from Halfords.

EDIT: Chris Franklin may well have fabbed up some half shaft spacers now - I got mine when I bought some new wheel centre caps so shipping from the US wasn't such a stinger.

Ironically I was researching this yesterday.
Make sure you get suitable bolts for the spacers.
There is some history of these extended bolts spanning with the strain they are put under.
BTW The US solution to this problem is to simply to swap the cups round

Yep, but then you get a vibration on deceleration. See the thread above
