Default Chat and other things...

We've got chat! Click the # of chatters link above to chat live.

Also can someone make a banner 460x68 to plug the hole left by the supermeet banners which aren't there anymore? Anything will do, maybe just something about the UK club.

Enjoy!

Shit this is going to get very addictive.

Just been on having a short chat with some of our American friends.

Nice addition cthree.

The chat user name doesn't appear to support spaces in the name. I got around this by logging in as cthree

We now have SuperMeet3 as a Go; therefore I will be sending you some SuperMeet3 banners next weekend after I get back from France, is that OK?

The auto logon fails, but typing in the name with _ s works.

I tried this chat idea. All I got was a blank screen with two options at the bottom. "Need Help?" and "Leave Chat" What did I do wrong?

Are you behind a firewall, Ade? I get that at the office, which I think is as a result of the fact that the firewall is set up in such a way as to prevent incoming datastreams of a certain type - for instance, it won't let me access streaming video or sound files from the internet.

On the other hand, I tried it at home last night (where I don't presently have a firewall installed - temporary hitch pending re-installing ZoneAlarm) and it worked fine there.

That said, when I got into the chatroom, it was mayhem - the kiddies had just worked out that you could make noises by typing in certain commands...... What a cacophony!

Many corporate firewalls prevent you from making connections (outbound) except on certain ports (ftp, mail, web and a few others). Everything else is blocked. I guess they don't want you dinking around at work

Not all firewalls are like this. My firewalls at home and the one we have for S2KI are semi-porous. Anything inside can connect to anything outside but connections from the outside that aren't initiated from the inside are blocked. Chat works fine with these types of firewalls.

The only real option in the first case is to have your firewall admin open the ports as per the help file. Unless you are his/her boss however, that is unlikely to happen. There is no way around it at the moment or the foreseeable future.

Yep looks like that is the answer. It works fine at home. Serves me right for surfing on the firms time. Though the boss says he approves!
