Default Check Engine Light ON - What next ?

I thought it might be useful to put together a straight-forward guide as to how you can diagnose the problem in the event that the Check Engine light or "Malfunction Indication Lamp" comes on.

Most dealers seem to charge half an hour's labour to run a quick diagnostic, but you can buy a gadget for

... by the way, to complete the story, the problem was found to be faulty spark plugs which were installed at a recent service and have now been replaced.

The problem is therefore now happily resolved.

Good write up there , i have the geniscan too. I comes with a manual with codes, but consult the FAQ for the codes. Its a good product.

The unit I sell is the one up from that, GS300 which works on most european cars too. The GS100 is more limited.
