Default Chipped windscreen

So on the way home tonight and damn 4x4 has kicked a stone up and chipped my windscreen pretty badly. Just wanted to know if anyone has had to have theirs replaced via insurance and of it was a relatively painless ordeal? Being an s2k I fear the worst of them be being able to find a screen that fits.

Thanks

Shari.

For the love of God don't use the AA. It took them a month and 6 failed appointments to replace mine!

Auto Windscreens just did mine via insurance, first attempt didn't work as the glass didn't fit correctly. They replaced it with a Pilkington screen and no problems so far, to be fair they were really good about it - no hassle getting them to do it again. I'd recommend getting them to fit wither a Honda screen or a Pilkington one.

Had mine done through insurance too, used one of their local authorised windscreen companies, when ringing to book the appointment I just confirmed they were going to use pilkington which they confirmed. Install was perfect, they even did the rear view mirror properly.

Pilkington is the actual glass manufacturer, and as far as I know, you wont get another company making copies...well not easily due to costs of manufacturing. That said, im sure my screen is not Pilkingoton but some other Japanese manufacturer.
Quite surprised that the one post mentioned glass did not fit correctly......

Depends on what your excess is, its well worth calling around. A few year ago I had to replace my Punto screen. Excess was £80, but after a few calls and most quotes coming in at £300+, found a company that would supply and fit for £75. Speaking to the guy, they distribute the glass to all the "fitters" who then charge people silly money.

Good luck getting the WS sorted.

I'm sure I've seen a thread that talks about the rear view mirror boss being in the wrong place on some windows, there are also the part numbers for the window from National windscreens (or maybe Autoglass) - trouble is I can't find either the thread !
