Default Click noise from rear

Hi all,

Hoping for a little help if possible… My 2004 S2000 was a good as gold in July and at 50,000 miles I had the rear brake discs and pads replaced with Pagid items. The Mileage is not almost 53,000 and the car has developed a strange noise which I can only describe as a clinck more than a clunk.

The noise only happens when :

1) The car goes over a bump like a Cat’s Eye or pot hole.
2) After driving forwards or backwards and then coming to a stop, when the cars then goes in the opposite direction, it makes a dipper clinck noise, almost like the brake pads are sticking.

Sorry for the rubbish description but does anyone have any ideas so I have some basic knowledge before calling a garage?

Many thanks
Henry

Hub nuts. When mine first went they would click once when you pulled away. The drivers side went again this year and it creaked all the time.

Basically they are a really big nut behind the alloy centre cap which need to be replaced. They are a one time use nut, and they are torqued up to something silly like 250Nm. First time round Honda did them, the second one I did myself with my new torque wrench.

I'm sure Jaeger did a "How Too..." on this one some years back. Might be worth a search if you fancy a crack at doing them yourself, or you could just get a pair of new nuts from Honda dn ask them to replace them when it's next in for a service/MoT.

Than you J8mie for your reply. I think this is something I might get Honda to do but I will look up the how to guide by Jaeger.

Cheers

Sorry to bring this thread back to life… and please bear with me as I try to explain this.

This morning I had the hub-nut replaced by Honda and done-up to the correct torques. The sound seems to have gone whilst driving but when I parked at work with the door open (to listen) and touched the brake pedal while slowly going backwards, there was a slight clink so something is still not quite right!

Honda thought something different might be the issue. They said that as the rear break discs are new and not a Honda brand, (have now done 3,000 miles) they might not be the correct size and so there might be a little play on the hub, hence the noise.

When the discs where replaced, for the first 1,000 miles there was no noise from at all. After that the noises become louder. Honda have suggested greasing the inside part of the disc where it touches the hub and see if that removes the noise. Obviously if this works and as the grease stars to disperse, the noise will come back.

Does this sound plausible? Would appreciate any input!

A Q about mine if i may (search isn't working for me)

I have a click/tap sound when I press the brake pedal, think coming from front near side (new discs pads)

more noticeable at low speeds but not at all when stopped or near stop and only heard when pressing the brake

could this be a hub nut?

I've found that some aftermarket pads will click or clunk in the calipers but can be sorted by bending the clips that sit at either end of the pad slightly.

OEM pads don't seem to do this.

Cheers GaryB. Seems to tally a little with the Honda's view. Should have just stuck on Honda items...

Zombies: I only hear the problem at low speeds. I'm sure it still happens at high speeds but the wind noise etc makes it not hear-able.

Mine are doing it again now at the rears. Just one clunk/click at lowish speed when braking. The bending of the clips only lasts a few months and I have a new set of OE pads to go on this weekend.
