Clutch a bit floppy at the top
 

Seems a number of elements of my car are choosing the post-Christmas cash depletion to rear their heads. Leaky lights, dodgy brakes and now this...

The clutch pedal has very little resistance for perhaps a little over half its travel, and even with the pedal fully depressed, slotting a gear requires a little more force it seems.I checked around the pedal and carpet for any signs of a leaky master cylinder, but seems dry, and the reservoir seems full in any case...Any other suggestions?

Mine gets the same symptoms with no obvious leaks, I just bleed it up every other year.

Straight forward to do on the drive/road and you can gravity bleed it if your on your own.

Can you recommend a fluid?

I cant recall which DOT rating you need but if you check the cap it may be DOT 4/5.

Any DOT 4 brake fluid will do.
bleed full system
check clutch pedal height (as per workshop manual)
check there is zero free play in the pedal.
remove slave and grease the ball/cup, also remove any "nipple" on the ball end of the slave.

Refit everything and you should notice a difference :LOL:

Honda spec is DOT3 for the hydraulics ( you don't want to be using DOT 5 as that is silicone based ) probably good idea for the clutch as it's less hygroscopic than DOT 4 or 5.1 and you're not going to be cooking it hot like you might with the brakes.

A slave cylinder clean might be a good idea if the bleed doesn't help, the amount of grey mung that came out of mine was considerable.
