Default Clutch & Gearbox issues

Hi all, my S has 70k miles on it, over the past while I have noticed a hesitancy in the box when changing gear. Having researched here with the Search function, it looks like the box is on the way out, as I seem to have the typical synchromesh problem in 2nd and fifth, although 3rd also has this. It's not very bad yet, but I do feel gears starting to become hard to pull the lever out of when clutch is engaged. Question is this.

Is this purely gearbox related, or could it be clutch related also? Should the clutch be changed with the gearbox. I don't want to do it through my dealer, as a) they are clueless when it comes to anything more than a routine service, and b) the expense would be too high.

Has anyone reconditioned a box, or used a 'used' box from a breakers. Is the clutch very expensive, is there anywhere to get one cheaper than from Honda?

Also, a separate issue, but anyone know where to get the rubber seals for the roof (apart from Honda)?

if the clutch is not dis-engaging properly (knackered clutch), then it could cause difficulty changing gear. usually the worst putting it into gear at standstill.

sometimes a simple gearbox oil change, and clutch bleed can help, so i'd start with these cheaper options before blowing

Hi Jel, thanks for that. I have a mechanic local to me and will get him to check if the clutch needs changing over the weekend, if so, I will PM you on Monday.

You don't have a spare gearbox too!

Veehex, when I started to notice it I got the gearbox oil changed and it hasn't made any difference whatsoever. It is starting to get worse, little by little which make me think it is not clutch related.

killian, it could well be the clutch starting to wear and the plates dragging slightly which would make the gear change harder. It will get progressively worse as the clutch continues to wear.

Cheers Richard, that sounds very like what is happening. It needs a service, I guess I can get my dealer to look at that.

P.S. Reckon someone should do you a propper banner for that Track Day in your sig!

With mine 1st, 2nd and 3rd were fine and 4th, 5th and 6th were pretty stiff. I think if it's the clutch it's going to affect the lower gears more? Don't know if that's true.

Honda told me they thought it was the gearbox, and that'll be
