Default Clutch problem ?

Hi

Car has done 45K miles from new. Would a clutch go after this time ? Symptons are when accelerating the rev's go way up and only after a few seconds does the car respond. Any idea's ?

Thanks

Sounds possible, usual test is to stick it in third gear with the handbrake applied and release the clutch gently, if the revs rise the clutch is suspect, it should stalltrying to drive against the brakes. HTH.

Is this when trying to do a fast start or when changing during normal acceleration?

Thanks for the feedback so far. I will try the 3rd gear test tomorrow. The revs run high during normal driving (No fast start pulling away etc)

Anything else to check outwith the clutch ?

Sounds like its slipping to me...I had exactly that on my Corrado G60 a while back. Rev's would rise and then the car would start to pick up but not in line with the rev range. I also had it from time to time on my re-mapped E46 diesel, exactly the same symptoms.

as for your mileage worry you can burn a clutch out in a few hundred miles if you ride it like a granny so yes they can go at 45k or sooner.

mines had its clutch changed last year with 45k miles and im looking at fitting a uprated one this year as i have a six paddle plate in my boot i got free

Almost certainly new clutch time based on what you are saying. Just had a new one put in mine, 72k on my old clutch however.
