Default Cobbles

Does anyone drive their S on cobbles much ?
I know the ride is hard, but every time I drive on cobbles in town it sounds like bits are falling off the back end - can this cause long term damage ?

Also, car (02) seems unusually steady on damp cobbles when accelerating out of junctions - still unable to move the rear end - is this normal, or do I have extra grippy tyres ?

Ah yes, Cobbles. I remember those from the Stirling meet!

That depends on what bits are falling off!

Seriously, Euan, I wouldn't worry about it. Your dealer is well aware of road conditions in Edinburgh and your warranty will cover any problems that may arise. The S2 was obviously not designed for this, so the suspension is not mentally ready for that kind of treatment. Physically, it won't matter much as long as you're not Vtec-ing across the cobbled bits!

I have noticed that the rougher the road is, the better the grip in the wet. You get a bit more grip if you're not on a smooth greasy surface. The S02 tyres are quite a soft compound, too.

Those cobbles on the streets of Edinburgh have been there for a long, long time. You should be on the pnone to the local council telling them that it is about time that they were replacing them with proper tarmac roads

I think cobbles is one of the famous suspension testing roads that all new cars go through as an induced failure test i.e. 10miles on cobbles = 500miles regular driving. Apparently Belgium pave is considered the harshest and from experience I can believe that. A section of pave road is installed at the car manufacturers test facility. I remember watching on TV when Lotus were developing the Elise with the glued chassis that they managed to break it on the cobbles during testing - I assume they fixed it before release

I am sure that that they would have glued it back together again before sticking it on the forcourt

Do Honda engineers test this with laptop computers packed in the boot on the way to work? - how will I persuade my bosses that I didn't drop their expensive hardware?
