Default Converting to electric

I'm getting a more than healthy interest in electric cars at the moment
so was wondering what people thought about this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48956000

If it was technically possible, and affordable would you consider converting your S to run on a tesla motor or similar ?

I was mulling this over on the train this morning and have concluded that I wouldn't be totally against the idea. However to me I'd be concerned about changing the way the car performs and handles. Moving the engine and fuel tank out of the way and replacing with a bank of batteries surely must make it drive very differently. Also I'd want noise. but if someone could come up with a way of generating the same sounds then it wouldn't be a showstopper for me.
The advantages would be lower running costs, which I guess would partially offset the cost of conversion. and with the expectation that HMRC will tax me to death sometime in the very near future for burning ancient marine life it may be a no brainer in the future.. But for me its more about running a car i love to drive without it pricking my environmental conscience.

I'm sure I recall a post somewhere about someone in the US had fitted a Tesla motor to an AP2 but can't find the thread.

thoughts ? particularly from any technical peeps out there about the challenges that might need to be overcome.

Not for me.
The whole appeal of the S2000 is it’s engine. With an electric motor it would just be an appliance.

A GT100 would really qualify as "white goods", still less likelihood of the motor going pop!

If it delivered the same or even better performance would that be the case ? OK, I'm not an accomplished DIY mechanic although I am trying more advanced jobs. I'd be more than happy not to be neck deep in oil and grease but I'm sure the appeal of cars to many people is the ability to work on the machinery. guess it depends on your reasons for owning.
for me its the driving bit (and probably the head turning that happens when you roll up in your S )

Definitely not for me. As Griffter says, it's all about the engine and the sound it produces.

Siemens have a 220kw motor (about 300hp) which weighs 50kg, which I guess is a lot lighter than the fc20 with all the coolant etc. with graphene batteries and maybe you have a car that weighs 900Kg?

It’s a personal thing but for me, yes.

Character/appeal and performance are not independent but are not always closely related.

I’m not really that bothered how fast the S2000 is in absolute terms. It’s the fact that the engine revs to 9k, has the Vtec kick etc that matters to me (along with the rest of the package).

Thats not to say an electric car couldn’t also have an appealing character, but it wouldn’t be the same as a S2000 - IMHO.

This.

If it's engineered as an EV, it might work. Anything less is a shameless bodge.
