the wee coolant container at the front right of the engine - what do you fill this up with exactly? - mine is at the "min" mark just now...

sorry for the daft question...

I think it's ok to be at min. Go for a drive and check it when it's warm. IIRC it is an expansion tank, so just needs to be somewhere between the Min & Max marks.

and yes, it shouldnt be above the max when cold, as it does expand

I always thought coolant was coolant.... I thought water was a get me home fix and should be followed up by a trip to the stealers?

My advice would be:

As long as it never drops below the minimum level don't worry about it. If it ever does drop lower then get a dealer to check your coolant system for leaks because you have a problem if coolant is being lost. If you want to top up in an emergency to drive to the dealer, use de-ionised water (the wrong sort of anti-freeze may cause problems with corrosion or head gasket).
