Default Cooling Help

Hi all,

i am upgrading my Superhcarger and going for big bhp figues over the winter months 500 +/-.
My main concerns are cooling as the car will be beased on the track from time to time.

Do 30% bigger aliminium rads actually offer more cooling than the OEM? because actually the 30% bigger only means its capacity to hold coolant..... and aliminium is worse at dissipating heat than the OEM copper... ??

are there upgraded fans available on the market / which are the best?? (i would havwe them kick in from start up not froma cetain temp)

i will be runnig the large TTS intercooler in a v mount at the front of the car with the new radiator.

Finally i am going to be looking into using a snorkel air intake so any advice on which ones etc would be helpful. (dont have room for a big air box

radiator cooling plate will be installed too (already have an APR one)

I'd focus more on oil cooling tbh. You may have that covered though.

Bigger radiator together with higher pressure radiator cap will help on cooling. Also a lower thermostat and radiator fan switch will help. I find OEM fans work very well and are quite big. Like MB said you will realize that oil cooling will be the better to focus rather than water temperature.

I agree with MB, standard radiator even 7 years old like mine wont struggle to keep the engine cool full chat on the track for 30 minutes. In fact looking at the temperatures im pretty sure when on the move the cars coolant thermostat is probably controlling flow quite alot. I know now i see temps of 82c even when im going full throttle. On previous car i've had once the car was up to temperature that was it the thermostat was pretty much fully open all the time.

Oil is definitely the important thing to concentrate on. I have seen 130c out on track so with a supercharger and the added strain the oil will be under i would imagine it would get pushed up a fair few degree's.

If you want a very good oil cooler kit then you cant go wrong with the Mishimoto oil cooler kit. After going through installing an oil cooler recently i could of saved myself a fair bit of agro installing a kit similar to this one

Only issue for you is whether the oil cooler would foul your intercooler, not 100% sure where its mounted on supercharger set ups.

It does currently get in the way of the intercooler, however mine is much smaller than that.

what i could do if having a V mount set up in the middle i could cut out the false vents in the bumper (i have an AP1) and have the oil cooler mounted behind one of those with some sort of vent / snorkel, that could work

I'd be interested in seeing your v mount set up if you can post pics. Ran one on my rx7, good solution where there's limited front end space

no problem at all,

my only worry is finding a intake / snorkel which will fit in the limited space when the Vmount is in place, as the Supercharger already takes up a fair bit of room at the front!

the oil cooler wont be a problem, will just custom mount it infront of one of the 'vents' in the bumper that i will cut out

fingeres crossed.

anyone have any advice on the snorkel?
