Default Corroded front discs

Last week I noticed a slightly lumpy feeling when braking and could hear a very slight grinding noise. On inspection the front discs were looking slightly rusty, normal when not driven for a day or two but not after having driven a few miles.

After a visit to the dealer they confirmed my fears that the discs have corroded and need replacing, after only 13k miles! Fortunately it will be done under the warranty.

I can't understand why they would corrode prematurely, has anyone else experienced this? The car is garaged overnight, on the flat, first gear, handbrake off. No strange fluids have been used to clean the wheels etc (just normal car shampoo). The only thing I can think of is that I didn't drive the car for a week or so over Christmas and that the corrosion started then due to lack of use, can't see that though.

Replacement due next week when they get the new discs in stock.

I'd have thought the grinding would result from the pads being worn down? The rust that appears after the car hasn't been driven for a few days is pretty normal. Always happens on mine, and also the day after its been washed. Unless my brakes are effed of course!

If it's a warranty job HUK will reimburse the dealer for their outlay (

i'd like to see a photo of a disc. Discs do corrode and if the rust can acutally scour away the pad quicker than the pad scours away the rust so the pads can't clean up the disc, but not on a 06 that's done a decent mileage. Its not like its a garage queen.

To update:
Discs and pads replaced all 'round yesterday under warranty. No problems, no hassle. Local dealer (Lloyd Carlisle) made it all very easy. Cheers for your comments

after being parked up for a while you really have to stomp the brakes to clear the rust

Tried all that and drove every day for a week but made no difference. Dealer said that the discs were bably corroded, hence the replacement under warranty.

I was surprised that they went after just a few days laid up in the garage over Christmas. After all the S gets regular use (will have done 12k miles in as many months since purchase last Feb).

Good result. One extra step I always do after washing the S2000 is to take a quick spin to "dry the brakes", as they do seem to rust up (at least get a rusty bloom) very quickly during the time taken to wash & dry her. So far, after 18k no sign of any problems.

Low mileage cars suffer from that. Especially if you over-wash them. I've farked the 'Ludes like that.

Once gone, the rough parts eat that part of the pads too quickly, meaning the pads cannot ever surface them up.

Over washing might well have contributed to the problem. I wash the S pretty much every weekend and then she goes back in the garage.

From now on I will go out for a spin before putting her to bed! Any excuse for a run out
