Supers2k, I haven't driven an 04 model, no. Has there been a softening of the chassis??? ala S2k

I have extensive experience behind the wheel of 51/52 plate models, as they were my last companies runabouts I was considering one as a replacement for my ATR, but it just didn't handle as well.

I had one for 18 months and never really fell in love with it.

The VTEC and gearbox are great fun but the awful steering feel, crap turning circle (especially crap after a '91 CRX VTEC), and chav image made me consider swapping for a Jazz. Fortunately I saw the error of my ways and bought an S2000 instead!

A summary -

Good: Performance, handling (but ruined by steering), space (only 2 back seats though), gearchange, price.

Bad: Steering (the one thing you do all the time), turning circle, image, ICE (if you're bothered by that sort of thing), tyres in the wet, driving position is way too high (you sit 'on', not in the car).

It pains me to say this but you'd probably be better off with a new Golf GTi, despite the extra cost and turbo.

The 04 suspension has been revised like the S2k and is definately better then the pre 04's I have driven.

I also had the geometry done as soon as I got the car to fast road which made a difference.

Def worth a look at the new model if you are still in the market.

Plus with the lightened flywheel, it is has quicker acceleration then the old car.

As good as CTR's are, they're common as muck, and therefor their visual appeal for me is nil.

I'd go for an old school ITR or a DC5. Both are cracking at what they do, still turn heads, and keep up with the best of them.

I had a new 02 plate and a new 04 plate before my S2K and i loved them both. The 04 has a slightly softer suspension and seemed more planted on the road. One of my daughters took on the 02 plate when i bought the 04 and i believe the mileage is now at around 25k and there's been no problems with it. If i had to sell my S i would definately go back to a CTR.

Geoff.

Mate of mine has one. Some strange type of suped up air intake bulbous carbon fibre weird thng on it, which neither of us really could ID. He loves it, its that mayhem mix of easy to boot & cheaply re-fuelled that I think feels good.
With that cheap servicing, he's now a convert.

I was a passenger in one not so long ago (trying to keep up with S2000s on a jockmeet) and it was not a pleasant experience.

VERY hard, uncomfortable ride, booming noisy engine (not nice sounding like the S) - I had to ask the driver to stop, because I nearly threw up. I'm sure its fine if you're the driver, but not as a passenger IME.
