Default Dead Battery

I've had my battery tested and because the car has been parked up for the best part of a year the battery isn't holding charge so needs replacing.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a replacement or should I just got for an OEM one? I've looked on Lings and they're £66.

TIA

Mine was £72 from a local supplier about 6 months ago, could probably have found one a bit cheaper but needed it urgently and they were the only place that had one! I'd say £66 is about average. It's not OEM but has been fine throughout the winter (DD, except for snowy days)

I asked the same question recently - the consensus was that OEM can't be beaten and that's what I did - perfect starting and I couldn't actually find anything cheaper that fits properly anyway..

Can't remember the model number but I got a Bosch one with 3 year warranty for around 40 from Andrew page

Only posted it a month or so ago so if you search you'll find the post

My car has had the battery replaced and it now has a standard Halfords battery fitted, as like yours the previous one had died from being stood. I now keep mine on a motorcycle trickle charger when not in use for longer periods and have never had any problems.

I'm pretty sure they retail at Halfords at £69.99 but they are a lot cheaper if you have a Trade card?

I was looking at the Optima Yellow Top as it can cope with heavy discharge cycles and as the car gets parked up over winter I wasn't sure if this made sense. It's double the price of the OEM battery though so I might just go for OEM and remove it to put on a trickle charge when it's SORN'd over the winter.

Thanks for all the input

Go for an OEM one, can't go wrong with it to be honest. I got mine for £50 off Hendy

The time of the year that we're now going to go through you could probably get away with a Halfrauds one, if you were desperate. Personally I swear by OEM now, once bitten twice shy and all that. I bought a Halfrauds one a few months ago when we were having the harsh snow and temperatures, because I was desperate and my local Honda didn't have one on the shelf. Ended up being a balls ache because, being a bit naive with the whole CCA thing on batteries, the one Halfauds supply as being 'OEM Spec' actually has a far lower CCA rating than a proper OEM one, thus every morning at 5:15am my alarm would go off when I tried to start the car! After numerous mornings expecting a brick to come through my window from a disgruntled neighbour I finally realised what was causing it, changed it for an OEM one and Robert is you fathers brother, problem solved. In Halfrauds defence though they did refund me for the battery with out a single quibble, as if they were used to the s2k one's being brought back.

My original one lasted 7 years, helfrauds one lasted 4 years. I've got a Bosch on there now but make sure you get one with matching terminals, ie take yours in with you, as many book specs are wrong
