driving in the manner in which the car was designed my engine made a funny rattle on saturday afternoon. thinking this doesn't sound right i pulled over. the engine stopped of its own accord and wouldn't restart. AA called. Patrol man tries to start the car which will run when being turned over on the starter but makes the most horrendous noise from the top end of the engine. suspected dropped valve and holed piston

car was recovered to kettering honda who were nice enough to open the service department to store the car over the weekend. i shall be speaking to them shortly. watch this space.....thank christ its under warranty.

Bad luck, chap!

Was it the result of a missed change or did it just fatigue?

mileage is 30k miles. there was no missed change or anything untoward. it was being revved in vtec at the time but nothing out of the ordinary. very strange.

honda think they will be back to me with a diagnosis within the next couple of hours.

There have been a few problems with the number 4 piston. IIRC this is the problem that Radron had and it was terminal. You should be covered on extended warranty if you haven't made any engine mods.

thankfully the car is dead standard. i just hope that it can be resolved quickly and that there aren't going to be any issues with getting it done under warranty.

The oil jet recall was to fix the No.4 pot problem.

Things were getting too hot back there and the rings were picking up and scoring the bore in extremis.

There have been a few cases of bent valves on this forum, too.
