The definitive leaking roof thread.

Its seem us s2000 owners at some point have suffered the dreaded leaking roof, it seems that the information is a bit disjointed. I for one am hacked with a small shower every morning particularly on my knee and shoulders, occasionally the passenger gets a free shower too, and sometimes i get a free drink yuk!

I propose for members to outline...

1. A method they have tried.
2. What state your roof is in and where it leaks from.
3. How you did the method/fix - outline quick steps (or more detailed if you want)
4. Was it successful?
5. Anything else to note?, picture etc?

Give each method a number, which will be incremented. Hopefully we can build up a trend and also highlight potential fixes for people, as not all methods work for everyone.

I have tried greasing the rubbers with shenetzu grease.

My roof is only 3 years old its a vinyl roof and has no visible wear and tear however the rubbers appear to be on from day one. It leaks from the corner where the an A pillar is located and from the section that folds in half directly above your shoulder.

I basically liberally covered the rubber in grease and the wiped away with a cloth allowing it to settle in.

It was not successful. However when the roof was first fitting it was great never leaked then slowly starting leaking!.

Reserved for future updates.

Only my latest S leaked. Was the mid point seal on the drivers window.

Cured by thorough cleaning of the rubber seals, then a few regular Shin Etsu sessions.

By cleaning how do you mean soap and water then greased?

Tried everything
greasing the seals, didn't work
greasing the ends of the rubbers where the fixing screws are, didn't work
sealing over the tiny tears that someone once pointed out on the forum, didn't work
reseating the rubber seals didn't work

Can't remember what I used, Aj... Think it was some sort of alcohol wipe. There was a lot of crap on there, which would have prevented the grease permeating and therefore lubricating the seals. I spent a long time greasing, every single seal got it, on every exposed part. You have to do it thoroughly as water can track through from a tiny point. You have to get the roof half way up and get into the faces of the seals.

Completely cured. Even if I jet water at the window, I only get a few drops. Before this it would pour in when it rained, right onto my leg. Fairly sure it was tracking from the windscreen seal round to the window.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the soft tops on the S.

My last 3 never leaked a drop.

I use Vodka (cheap stuff) to clean the seals every time I grease up with shin-etsu. it's amazing how much crap comes off.

Mine never leaks. And the roof is down at every opportunity. My old S did leak at the centre point along drivers window only, but my current S is totally fine. Just refurbed the roof with Renovo Reviva and Ultraproofer too :thumbup:
