diagnostic reader for the s2000?
I am wanting to make an interface unit so I can connect my laptop into my s2000. I have noticed the following device on ebay

Is there a cheaper way of doing this? Does anyone know what the circuit board comprises of?
Any help would be great
Cheers

If you just want it clocked, I can sort that out for you for a tenner.
People here:

have got into this OBD stuff
I think the lead and software cost about

I wanna be able to hook up my laptop to my ECU to check for faults? my other honda the MKII CRX had an LED that used to flash a certain amount of times then u would look at the manual and that would translate where the fault lies...
I dont put too many miles on my car so doubt I would be too tempted by the clocking feature but would be nice to offer the service if needed.

An ODBII reader makes all of this a lot easier than counting flashes as reading the codes out of, say the ECU, and then decoding them directly into a descriptive fault, depending on software and if you have the Honda fault codes (some codes are standard, but some are specific to manufacturers).
The other advantage of an OBDII reader is that you may be able to read sensors in real time and hence you could see how effective a CAI is and whether the manifold air temperature has decreased. The real timing reading of sensors is also software dependent and possible hardware dependent.
probably no use to you but i mailed about the kit on ebay (whether it works on an s2000 ) and this is the reply

Hi Steve,
The Honda s2000 is the only Honda we dont have in our book, but all the other Hondas have to be reprogrammed directly to the speedo EEprom memory device. Our kit includes software to do this but basic knowledge is needed to perform it and you would need to make or buy an EEprom cable. The diagnostic software would also work on Honda.
Kind regards
Mike
