Default Disaster !

Hi All,

Disaster last night! Took the S out for an early evening spin in the Cambridgeshire countryside. Car felt wonderful

Driving through a village I started to hear a change in the engine tone - sounded a little rougher, a little tinkly.

Leaving the village I started to accelerate (gently) only to be greeted with an awful rattling sound and plumes of smoke coming from the engine bay

Pulled over and called Honda Assist to collect me.

I have been complaining to my dealer about a misfire & a dodgy clutch for over 3 months now ("don't worry mate, it'll probably be nothing!") - I hope this isn't connected.

Earlier that day I did fit new windscreen wipers - maybe they contributed

I biggest concern, however, is the new oil I topped up with that day - Castrol RS. Anyone had any problems with this oil before?

Anyway, being transferred to the Honda garage this morning - I'll post again when I know what's wrong.

Chris

I have been using Cartrol RS for a couple of years now and not had any problems.

I doubt its the oil unless you ran out. Could just be something simple like the fuel injection!

The AA guys checked the oil as soon as they arrived and it was spot-on.

Yep used RS my last S as that is what dealer used - you'll be alright on the oil front.

What was the oil level before if you'd just topped up?
Has it been using a lot of oil recently?
Had it had the oil bolt recall work done on it?

I'm thinking the misfire might have been an early sign of the piston cracking. The bets on this amongst a few people at work is that the extra squirt jet is to provide additional cooling to the piston due to a cracking concern. If it's finally split and gone bang the ratting would be the con-rod trying to cut the engine in half, and the big oil plume would be the oil getting into the exhaust and burning off.

Let me know what they find
