On its own, an original MY99 or '00 look just about ok from the back. At the front they do look slightly dated.

Put them next to something new like a modern Clio 197 or a new Impreza and they look terribly dated and really bland. That's one of the main reasons I sold mine.

It just looked like an old banger next to new cars whenever I looked out the window at work.

I think the exterior looks fantastic and still knocks the competion into a cocked hat. IMO not at all dated.

The interior alas is not a strong point. The switch-gear is certainly old school and I can't say I am a big fan of the digital dash. I find myself agreeing with James May when he called it Amstrad.

Love the car though and never regretted buying it

More specifically what I mean is that the quality of the materials and design of the headlamps and stuff like that has really moved on, even for ugly cars as you say.

The front of an early S really isn't that different from a '92 Civic and it shows next to even rubbish but modern cars.

haha, i do this from time to time aswell!

IMO the gunmetal wheels, lip and spoiler i added makes it look a wee bit better.

I agree with you on the lights and the quality of certain materials, I also think the interior is starting to look dated now. I just don't like the way some of the affordable modern designed cars are going with there styling. Like for instants the new Impreza compared with an early model. It seems like some manufactures are trying to hard.

I agree there too. Some of them are over-designing their cars to be different. The MY04 changes did the S a lot of good and gave it another few years, by bringing it up to date and giving it a bit more of a styled look.

Shame they went to 3 rear lights though, instead of keeping the two.

I think the original is a little dated... but still looks good.

The 04 revision looks more up to date... but it looks a little over complicated compared to the 02 and I really don't like the unsymetrical look of the rear lights.

Wheels are another thing. I think the 00 wheels are better than the 02 ones. I am not sure about the 04/07 wheels. Sometimes I like them more, other times I don't.

It still looks stunning to me.

Compare it to the competitors; 350Z, Boxster, etc. all look gash compared to the S2K. (IMO)
