Default Don't go out in the wet!

Just back from a week in the sun and i was reading last week's AutoExpress. On the subject of re-calls it mentioned that many Boxster owners had complained that their brake discs were going rusty.

Porsche still won't do a recall and have issued the following advice...

' get the brake discs cleaned if necessary and keep the car dry'

And they say the S2000 is scary in the wet!!!!

Eh? Most brake discs go rusty if rained on. its just a surface coating that goes pretty much instantly??? Or do they mean real rust?

I presume from the article that it's a real problem that may require a recall.. So if your racing a Boxster go easy, you wouldn't want his brakes dissolving on him!

My dad's boxster S suffers from this, I know what they mean, Its not a daily driver and even if its only been left for a short time, a bit of rain and the discs do seem to rust up really quickly alot more than average on my car, it has been commonly commented on by other owners but, I dont think that it is causing any damage to the disc its mainly just surface rust but seems to affect this type of disc in a greater way.

I wouldn't think a recall was due either

i wonder if the brakes being drilled makes the problem worse? probably would if you think about it. maybe they rust inside out?

Mine rust up quickly, but a brief drive always sorts them out.
