Default Double yellow lines

Urgent advice needed guys!

What are the legalities involving parking on double yellows?

ie....if they are faded, are they still legal?
Do they need a 'closing' bar at then end of the lines to make them legal also?

Sorry for the lack of info on this, but am at work, and V V BUSY!!!

Thanks in advance,

S.

IIRC they need a closing bar and be visible. If you can see they're faded then you can see them full stop.

Either way, not worth risking the hassle (Whether you're technically right or no) so park somewhere that's definitely OK.

p.s. Buy the Highway Code, it's cheap and will tell you all you need to know

Are Addenbrookes hospital really that concerning San? I know the car park is a bit small but questioning validity of yellow lines is stretching it a bit.

san-surely you must have one of them "doctor on call" thingys. can't you park anywhere with them?

why not get yourself a disabled badge-must be dead easy for you to say you have some debilitating condition-while you at it get us one as well

I agree with Drac by the way

I though you were after the Shelby-look

Double yellows are usually there for a purpose, so you're likely to be done for obstruction, if not a contravention.

You may have as much fun as you like with single yellows though.

An arsole can of black paint fades them nicely!

Guys....I wish it was that easy for me to get a disabled badge!! But I would get into an AWFUL lotta trouble if I did!!

Del.....this hospital have to be the most tight-fisted c**** in the world!
I paid for a resident's parking permit on Friday (57 quid for 6 months - the same as it costs me to have a residents permit in central London for a WHOLE YEAR!!), and I managed to find the only (strictly legal) spot in the car park last night.
Except, to get into it you have to RIDE THE F***ING KERB!!

So I went elsewhere, which admittedly doesn't have lines to indicate a parking space, but is in NOBODY's way WHATSOEVER. (Honestly, I'll post pics when I can)

I got back to the car at lunchtime thinking I would move it if a space was available, and I find a little yellow notice on it. 25 squid fine, 15 if I pay in 1 week.
Ok, I know it's not much, but it just strikes me as petty and pathetic.
That's why, if there's an equally petty way I can get out of it, then I will. Hence the post......and the pics I've taken.
What makes it even more ridiculous is that the only car that MAY have had difficulty in moving out of their space (if the driver was a complete moron!!!) cos of me, was in a hatched area (like a box junction......and did they have a ticket? did they fcuk!!!!!

The department have asked me to stay on for another 6 months, and I said yes, assuming that I would be able to stay in my crummy, but convenient, hospital accommodation. Now they tell me I can't, which means that my monthly rent will go from an affordable 150 quid a month to about 5-600 quid (for a room in a flatshare), as I will have to move to private accommodation. Just takes the piss.......................

If the NHS want to recruit and retain staff, they are going completely the wrong way about it. The parking issue is so obviously a money making scam; where else can I park FFS? (About 8 other cars were done as well, and they were all parked in the right bays!!!!!! Will be interested to find out why they were done.....probably cos they were parked at the wrong angle, or fluffy dice hanging from the mirror)

But then that's the NHS for you. Shaft everybody in sight apart from the managers and politicians.
Close to retiring, no doubt about it and a good thing too.......patients may actually get the decent health service they deserve if the system goes along the route of mainland Europe, or even America.

How the hell have I got from double yellow lines to whingeing about the NHS?
I think I must be getting alcohol withdrawal!! Right......off to the pub................

If anyone does know of the legalities of double yellas, it would be very helpful

Oh and Chris...........
