Default Down on power...

I've noticed that my S2K seemed slow today and, out for a run with another one before the rain came, mine was definitely slower in the lower gears. I have a theory that where I haven't been using it much the petrol has "gone off" (early car that needs 98 ron) and I hope it isn't anything more serious (3 months old Optimax/VPower).

Or does anything else commonly go wrong to "take the edge off the performance"?

V Power / Optimax is well known to go off, even in weeks.

Fill it with new stuff, reset the ECU, see how you go

Have you got an induction kit or running with the airbox lid off?

MAP whack.

My old one felt that it just wan't going as well as it had in the past. I did the map whack and it immediately felt better.

The fuel could have also gone off. Never had it in the S but have had bad batches of fuel in other cars in the past.

It stands to reason that 3 month old fuel will severely degrade, and the engine therefore will not make the same power nor have the same responsivenes.... As I said, its been proven the V Power / Optimax has a questionable shelf live vs quality.

How do you 'map whack' or reset your ECU (presume thats what map whack is?)......

is there any adverse affects of doing so ?

Thanks for all the replies - I'm pretty convinced its the fuel that's "gone off". I don't run any mods, BTW, and I never take the airbox lid off (boy does that kill throttle response - sod the noise I want a responsive engine!).

I plan to run this fuel out and then and fill up with new fuel (from a busy garage forecourt where they are not going to have the stuff in their own tanks too long) and then reset the ECU.

Can anyone tell me which fuse resets the ECU (to save losing radio memory by disconnecting the battery)?

The map whack basically involves tapping the map sensor with a screw driver handle or similar. If you look in the FAQ, i think there is a reference to it.

Dont do the MAP whack.... they are mega sensitive, I know a few say they have had good results but that must be down to luck.

ECU reset all the way.

Perform the reset from cold (over night stand)

1. Disconnect battery and wait 5 - 10 minutes then reconnect battery.

2. Start car but DO NOT rev the car.

3. Leave the car ticking over, eventually (after about 10 mins) the fan will cut in then go off. Wait until it comes on for the third time.

4. Jump in the car and give it some stick, drive it quite hard through the gears.

5. All done, your car should now drive like a dream!
