Default Driving Position

Guys

Since I've started to drive the car to and from work each day (10 miles each way, urban driving) about a month ago, I've been not been able to get comfortable with the driving position! No matter what combination I seem to go for with the seat upright and tracks, I can't seem to get it right.

I'm either cramped over the pedals or straining my back reaching for the wheel... I'm almost at the point of spending more time fiddling with the seat than actually enjoying driving the car!

I never used to have this problem before. I've been driving the car for nearly 2 years now, but recently this has started to happen. I used to only drive it on the weekends and odd night during the week . Any ideas? Or has anyone got any good tips for getting the right position (ooo-er!) in the car?

Have I come to the end of my fun explosixe relationship with the S?

Or are we going through some kind of 2 year itch???

Help!
G

I sometimes get this, it usually happens when my gf has been driving the car and she is only 2ft tall I can never get the seat back!

I think the S has quite an awkward driving position, as its not very low, play around with it a bit more I am sure you will get it right. Try starting with your legs, then adjust the recline to suit your arms? You have probably done that already

Get the seat back so your leg length is right. Then recline the seat so your arms are slightly bent and you can easily grasp the top of the wheel without moving your shoulders. Now put your right foot down hard on the floor and drive very fast round some good roads - I find this usually does the trick.

Are you driving the car in the morning, having not driven it in the morning much before?
Your spine can be an inch longer in the early part of the day. That could be what's making things difficult.
Because my hair is just touching the roof, I notice the difference often.

I get my legs in position first, as they are short, then I recline the seat so my arms are stretched out, but slightly bent when holding the top of the steering wheel.

This is one of the main things i learnt from an Academy day, the guy was quite funny "You driving like and old dear, on top of the steering wheel" "lean back and be more relaxed, but still in good control"

Or as your legs seem to be the problem drive in your socks. This will give another inch - and we all know about the extra inch!

Or drive in carpet slippers.

I often drive in socks, particularly when on a long journey. I find it confortable and the extra "feel" keeps me awake!

I'm sure someone told me once that driving without shoes is illegal - apparantly a "friend of a friend" got stopped and when the copper noticed, told them it was illegal.

Try different shoes though - I try not to drive in heels as it wrecks my clutch shoe, but if I do, the driving position is totally different to when I drive in trainers.

Also, I've always been told by instructors to get the seat position, so that your wrists wrest on the top of the steering wheel when your shoulders are against the seat back. You shouldn't have to lean forward to carry out manouevres (except parking).

I have mine all the way back and reclined all the way and I squeeze in !!! I need more room really but Its all the way back so I make do. I wouldnt mind lowering the seat by an inch which can be done but it looks like a lot of aggro !!!
