Default Driving Test question

A friend of mine wants to take their driving test in the UK at one of these 'week-long' courses along the lines of BSM. Apart from BSM, does anyone know of any similar (and probably cheaper) schools out there that can be recommended?

Also, how much of a difference does it make as to where in the country the test is taken? Is there anywhere I can go to get reliable stats on pass rates by driving test centre?

Any info/help will be much appreciated

A friend of mine is about to go on a course where the instructor picks you up from a train statiuon in Wales and you do 5 hours a day for a week and then take your test in the middle of nowhere! I will try and find out who it is for you.

She has looked into it and says the faliure rates are significantly different for different test centres.

If you're going for a quick pass, the middle of nowhere is probably best to take the test because there's generally less hazards to worry about. However I'd suggest learning in a busy area, so when you come to the middle of nowhere it's really easy.

However I wouldn't condone this behaviour as I think if you pass to soon, you're a risk when you first start to drive on your own. Experience definitely helps at the start (if you see what I mean)

the only problem with experience is that when you get past a certain age, you begin to believe that certain bad habits that you pick up are actually the right way of doing things. But I digress.

That would be great if you could send me a pm.

The thing is, there's no point just picking any driving instructor if you want to do the intensive test and have a good chance of passing. BSM have a good track record AFAIK but they're pricey so an alternative who was just as good would be the preferred way to go.

chilled, I know what you're getting at, but when you live here and the test situation here is very hit and miss, no other option seems practical. I can see where they're coming from and would probably do the same myself or they're going to get stranded living in the middle of Yorkshire with no wheels!

About 12 years ago after being made redundant I trained to
become a driving instructor.

I only got as far as teaching as a trainee for a company in
Leeds who specialized in one week pass courses.

This company no longer exists but in my short year long
experience I found a week was often too intense for
most learners, so I used to do no more than two two hour lessons
per day spread over a fortnight.

Russ.

Test circuit round this part of North Wales is not bad. My son (AE) and daugter both took 7 day courses. Ian passed first time but daughter was taken into hospital day befor test and had to take it again.

Try ABC or Trevor Young who have good reports. No known bad school or instructor.
