now that i have had my car for 3 weeks, done 800 miles and got used to it a bit more, i've noticed a couple of noises with the car. the first one is the one that concerns me but i wonder if it is an s2000 noise or the sign of a problem.

from about 30 mph upwards i get a drone type noise which i think is coming from the rear of the car. it sounds kind of like a wheel bearing in the early stages of wear, or poss even tyre noise but doesn't seem to get worse on corners. i'm not sure if there is anything wrong or i'm just being paranoid.

the second noise is a buzz that comes in at 8000 in 3rd gear and above. not worth taking it to the dealer over at the moment but just spoils the otherwise smoothness of the engine a bit.

any comments on either of these?

the buzzing could be the gear stick......try VTEC'ing but hold the gear to the right or left....the noise should disappear.....

nope, but the first one - should occur at higher revs only in VTEC 7-8-9k and should go away when you press the gear lever to one side. If it does then is is the gear selector that is ringing and can be fixed by being packed in grease (it rings when the grease is all gone). Should be a simple fix (was mentioned in the S2000 Buying Guide from Honda Revs that Brian Marshall wrote/co-wrote(?))

Nope it was hard copy in an old edition of Honda Revs. However, if you are a member they might want to send you a copy..

What sort of thing do you want to know? I think all of the potential problems to look for (as per the above) have been talked about a LOT on this forum so you can probably find that kind of thing on here. Some of the other info - things like model year changes etc is covered in the Tech FAQ.

the buzzing is indeed the gearstick as i discovered last night. is this a diy fix or a dealer job?

anybody got any input on the droney noise from the rear? i have noticed that there is less soundproofing in the car than my old mr2 from the loudness of the noise you get when stones hit the inside of the wheel arches. maybe it is just tyre noise.

IIRC the gearstick is a dealer jobbe, but should be covered under warranty - if you have any left.

The droning shouldn't just be tyre noise unless perhaps you have one very soft rear?? How about trying to meet up with some other local S2k owner(s) to chat about it and even take a test drive with them to compare noises?

If you can't make the Midlands meet this weekend coming, I am sure there are a few local owners who could help... if you fancy a drive over towards Coventry I'd be happy to listen in
