Dubious petrol guage?
Hi all
I've been thrashing the car around the island all weekend (hi Kevin BTW) and the low petrol light has come on. Not too surprising except that I've only done 200 miles (usually 240+) and the guage itself is showing 1/4 full ie at least 4 yellow bars remaining.
I'm not gonna take any chances so will fill her with petrol tomorrow but has anyone else had something similar to this? Which one do I trust? The petrol guage or the low fuel light?
Any comments appreciated
Ben
PS Took Fiat Coupe Turbo-owning mate for a spin today - "bloody hell Ben this things like a four wheeled superbike". Thanks mate!

From what I can gather this is quite a normal problem and has been hotly debated before. I've had it happen a couple of times. Did your gauge stay on 4 bars or suddenly reduce to 2 or 1? I've had that happen as well.
Most people just work on an average mileage when deciding at what point to refil the car.
Perhaps someone more technical can explain why the gauge is so crap when the fuel levels get low?

The guage is still reading 4 bars AND the fuel light is on - hence the confusion. The mileage is telling me that its due for petrol, but the guage says "naw, don't bother."
Bit baffled, and annoyed as you should be able to rely on your petrol guage being accurate!

Just trying to search for another thread on this, it was discussed not so long ago Ben.I think Honda should have included a better gauge perhaps with a numeric readout or something. Even better would have been a trip computer showing mileage left in the tank?
Now that's a good idea - but they can go wrong too as a friend with a top-end Audi found out. The display said 100 miles left, whilst the tank was bone dry. A sensor had malfunctioned and he was left stranded on a French motorway. Oops.
Oh well. It's one of the few things I can fault about this car. Might ask the garage about it when she goes in for her first service soon.
Cheers

Ben,
Did this only happen when you went clockwise around your little ol' island, or were you going anti-clockwise?
Don't you get dizzy going around in circles?
No offence intended and once had a glorious holiday driving around Jersey!
But seriously, I got an "out of petrol light" on by parking for a couple of minutes (engine running) on a steep hill. Filled up, but could only put in 26-litres.
If Honda have only used one fuel sensor then parking or cornering rapidly for longer than a specific time will cause the problem.
Ever since I ran out of fuel at nght in the wilds of Germany some 30-years ago - the damn gauge said 3/4 full - I never travel anywhere without a spare can of fuel!
