I popped into Birmingham on the train today.I eventually found the DVLA hidden away in Edward Street at the back of the National Indoor Arena. I was in and out in about 15 minutes, but there were some very irate people there who were gettin messed about something awful by the usual selection of po-faced counter assistants. No doubt erroneous form- filling was responsible for some of the aggro, but do the staff have to look like their faces would crack if they smiled now and again?
Nice plate, Tonky - what a good idea that was, if I do say so myself
And wasn't I right when I told you that you'd be much better off going into the DVLA office in Birmingham than sending if off by post!
Sounds like the same collection of time-serving civil servants must have been behind the counter during your visit as were there when I went in. I got the impression that the prerequisites for working there must have been to have a complete personality bypass, and to have all your enthusiasm for life forcibly removed. Probably via a tube stuck up the nose.
It's been a fair few years since I've been afoot in Birmingham by the way, apart from visting the Symphony hall and the Conference Centre a few times. I was very impressed by what they've done with the city centre generally speaking, .....from a pedestrians perspective that is. Lots of money been spent and spent wisely I thought. I like the way they've blended the older buildings and the newer ones together, and kept a common theme running throughout the whole area. It was a nice atmosphere, and just looking around, it's attracting lots of overseas visitors these days.
Doesn't it add too much weight to the car though ? [/QUOTE
Thanks.
It is heavy, in fact I wish I'd weighed it now, but I'd guess it's several ounces. I ws never a fan of this type of knob, but I'm now totally converted. It sits lower on the shaft giving a very short throw and the extra weight just adds to the bolt- like precision of the gear changes.
It's also irresistably tactile and smooth.... I can't stop feeling it and playing with it.
