Default Dyno info request

Hi Guys,

I'll be taking my S for a dyno run tomorrow, and just wanted to confirm which gear should it be conducted?

The main reason i am asking is i am getting a lot of conflicting information, such as:
- typical dyno graphs that i found nn this forum are mostly done in the 3rd gear. (typically run on dyno dynamics)
- read somewhere that 4th gear is the more appropriate gear
- also read that it should be typically done in the gear ratio that is closest to 1, which i believe is the 5th gear?

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Also, I'll be taking my EG6 civic for the rolling road to. Anyone here knows which gear should i run that?

Cheers,

Shawn

Well i did do it a few times all the way upto 6th gear but realised it was better in 5th so i do runs in 5th.

When i did it in 6th it resulted in less power rating than what would get in 5th. If people are doing it in 4th on Dyno Dynamics then that could give highier ratings?

I'd do it in 5th i think most others do, and it should give you a good baseline if you modifty etc so keep it in what ever gear you choose.

I got 251BHP, 170.4 ft lb, IIRC it was 204 WHP in 5th

I have a different final drive ratio though.

3rd/4th will be fine for both cars. I'd say 4th more preferable.

I take it you are only going for a power run, right?

Power run, dyno, rolling road, are they not all the same?? or am i missing something here??

Anyway, i believe i'll be getting my horsepower figures as well as AFR monitoring.

Rolling road usually the term for mapping

dyno and power run the same IMO.

Yes, get BHP+WHP, torque @the wheel+fly and AFR.

Have you got many mods?

Only the spoon air filter/snorkel on the S. Just doing it as a baseline for future mods.

A lot more mods on the civic though.

Just had a think on this, depends on what dyno you have i doubt it will be a hub one probably a roller one.

Difference between 3/4 etc will be very small, so i'd just go with 4th IIWU.

Yes, you're correct, it's on rollers rather than connected to the hub.

So, majority of the S onwers on the forum, have they done it in 3rd 4th or 5th, base on your experience? Just want to know so that i have a wider data for comparison.

I dont know mate, but i did mine in 5th never tried in 4th but TBH i think the differences between the gears will be small maybe a few BHP.

But as i say I'd do it in 4th on your car so you have a good baseline to work with and do future runs in 4th.
