E-manage mapping solution
Was talking to Dan at Sinclaire motorsport today who mentioned using the e-manage piggyback ECU as a mapping solution for my JDM MY2001.
He mentioned that the S2000 ECU was very different to the one in, for example, an EP3 Civic type -R and not as easy to map.
Does anyone have any experience with this system? Just doing my homework and a bit of research so any positive feedback and/or any horror stories?

I've had mine mapped by Nick at Couture Auto in Meath, in Ireland. Wasn't the easiest thing to get right. ECU kept cutting in and putting the engine into safe mode. (stopping VTEC engagement) but it took a while to iron out the parameter.
I gained a noticeable difference especially in the mid range. It is worth adding to gain more from any mods you may have already added.
Not sure if you are looking for any info in particular but nick can be contacted on e-mail by nick@couture-auto.com. He has also put up his own forum where people can ask him question. www.couture-auto.com/forum

Johnmcs2000, what version was it? do you have any results?
I bought an ultimate version years ago with preloaded maps, me and my mate wiped and started from the beginning it was buggy and caused quite a few problems with the car (missfires and weird other stuf it was wiring correctly and the car was fine). We only had about 4 hours to play with which should be enough, we were finally getting somewhere but i got pissed off and sent it back.
There are 2 versions one that can adjust fueling+vtec engagement and another that can alter fueling+vtec engagement plus ignition timing.
Now there isnt alot of scope on the ignition timing in my experience there is some more noticably lower down, more on the vtec lower and fueling.
The ultimate for a piggyback in theory is quite good as it doesnt use the MAP sensor method of tuning rather direct so partial throttle and WOT can be tuned
At the end of the day the more mods the better they go hand in hand but its not like x+y = z.
Cheers

Interesting, 3 replys and 3 different opinions. This is why i love forums, best way to find out about products from first hand experiences. Much better than a tuner website telling you why their product is the best.
I'm not biased towards E-manage or anything else for that matter, just that this is what was suggested to me as an option so i thought i'd check it out. i'm not too hot on S2000 tuning soall info is great.
Just to add, the car is generally standard apart from a Mugen exhaust and stainless steel manifold (cat still there though) and an Injen CAI.

Mugen exhaust will yeild next to nothing IMHO but they are a great made/sounding exhaust, if you want more power get a high flow CAT or decat that yeilds a wee bit more power, what manifold you got?
Looks like you have a few basic bolt on's which is good, the top marque products seem to be the best.
Personally i used a VAFC2 its good for WOT, useless for partial throttle but cheap and relatively easy to tune it did it myself and i'm happy with the gains being comparable to more expensive solutions. I got gains ranging from 8bhp low down to 20-25 highier up, i have a single pipe exhaust (T1r v2) and tracysports manifold - both considered up there with the best, i also have a k&n with snorkle and decat. Personally i know i could squeeze a wee bit more performance out of my car with a standalone/better piggyback but was it worth the extra £300-600 - i didnt think so, partial throttle would be nice but heyho.
My Vafc2 with a PnP harness was £160 from the states 2nd hand.
How much are you willing to spend?, do you want the maxiumum gains?
Piggybacks and full standalone's range from £200-1000 2nd hand or new. If you want something to tune both WOT+partial throttle, ignition timing and fueling then your looking at greddys for piggybacks thats about it really. For standalones AEM, Emerald, DTA etc. More expensive one tend to offer more adjustment points (my VAFC2 has 12 set at every 500rpm) you might need to add more say at 5200rpm but less at 5300rpm etc - smooter fueling line thus progressive pull, more features available, datalogging etc, launch control etc.
But remember the tune is as only as good as the tuner and not everyone has experience knowledge with all products, though when you start to use a few they become easier to figure out, a bit like different software languages etc.
My mate had a 106gti with a supercharger on that came in last year, it wasnt tuned by him but there was something wrong with it, he put a new engine in and SC when we looked at the old map it was running too lean and also too much ignition timing with knock!. We also think the little pugs cant handle SC, well much boost being french and all

Mark, it was an example of shit tuning
and what can go wrong.
p.s your link, the greddy ultimate doesnt tune via the MAP method and the ECU doesnt learn over the vafc2 in WOT (but to be expected), J's is excellent if tuned to your car wiht J's bits on.
