Default ECU Problems

Hi Guys I may have a problem with the ECU in my MY05. was thinking of getting a replacement from a well know auction site. Im not that technically minded so I was wondering, is it just a case of buying one secondhand and just swapping them over or is there anything else I need to know

thanks in advance for your help
Paul

The alarm will need to be linked to the ECU; apart from that it should be a simple swap. How do you you have a problem with your ECU

The car will not start with the new ECU fitted because the immobiliser chip in your key will not be linked to the new ECU.

You will have to get your key paired with the new ECU.

Chris.

I've got an 05 ECU in the garage with the original VIN number (which you will need to get Honda to code it) if you need one for a similar price. Not available for 4 weeks though

Cheers Guys,
the problem I have is the Rad fan has stopped working, took it into the garage yesterday and the said that it was fine as the fan comes on when the aircon is running but when the engine is up to temp the ecu is not telling the fan to come on. hope this makes sense. I trust the guy 110% with what he is telling me
MB I may take you up on the offer just need to check with my local stealer the price for a re-code

cheers again guys

You need a new fan switch, it lives in the N/S bottom corner of the radiator - very easy to change and about £12.

You also need a new mechanic - terrible advice.

He changed the switch first hoping for a nice easy fix, unfortunately that was not the case.

In that case, I rescind my comment, apologies - at least he checked the easy thing first

Check the thermostat is functioning correctly. The chances of the fault being the ECU i imagine are fairly slim.
